In Oklahoma, drunk driving deaths were highest in the first year that data collection started, which was 608 fatalities in 1982. The percentage of traffic fatalities that were alcohol related was also highest the same year, with 58%. The year with the lowest number of drunk driving deaths recorded was 2000, with 229. The percentage of traffic fatalities that are alcohol related has steadily declined in the last twenty years to reach its lowest level in 2002, with 34%. In the most recent year reported, out of all traffic fatalities, 31% involved a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or higher, down from 50% in 1982.
